Saint Croix USVIs Best Attractions and Things To Do!
Determining what to do on vacation can be a hassle. Not only do you have to come to a consensus opinion amongst the members of your group, but then you have to decide where to do the activity and which company to book it through. This all requires research and research can feel a lot like work....and we're supposed to be on vacation!
To eliminate some of that work, consider using a company that allows you to book all your activities through one vendor. This saves you obey and simplifies your vacation.....which is what we want!
Here are 3 activities that are SURE THINGS:
1. Snorkeling - Anyone, from the most adventurous to the most timid, can enjoy snorkeling. Even people who can't swim can snorkel! All you need is a life vest to make you float on the surface like a bird floating above the landscape. The beauty of the ocean will also provide as a distraction to those who are still nervous :)
2. Sailing - As long as the sea is calm, sailing is tremendously relaxing and a perfect activity for a group. The scenery is amazing, a slight breeze will cool you off, and there are always opportunities for fishing or other water activities if you choose.
3. Kayaking/Bio bay - Although some people have never kayaked before, becoming an expert for the day is not all that difficult and even if you fall out of the kayak, the water is usually shallow and at least you'll have a great story! The bioluminessence is also a very unique phenomenon which will bring you out of your comfort zone because it's worth it!
When you come to the USVI, book your trip with somebody who knows the market so you can enjoy your trip rather than stress about it!

We're always on the hunt for great resources that take us off the beaten path for better adventures and more authentic experiences. Recently, I came across the site below...and I love it. All of the posts aren't about St Croix, but if you're planning a vacation in the Caribbean you should definitely check this site out. I love the bright colors, the original stories, and the uniqueness of it all. Check it out!
Have you every been snorkeling? It seriously is one of my favorite things to do in the world. The experience combines so many feelings into one adventure. There is nothing like it.
First of all, the ocean is a completely different world. Once you put your face into the water, all your other cares and thoughts go floating away. Pun intended! There are so many sights to take in all at once and all of those visions are very different from anything you’re used to seeing above the water. Fish, coral, sting rays, maybe manatees…really…there could be almost anything. And, the best part is, it’s different every time.
If you’re like me, you like to get a little exercise while you’re on vacation. Eating all this Caribbean food can put on a few pounds if you know what I mean! Red beans and rice go straight to my hips! What better way to burn off some of those calories than by swimming around sight seeing?! Honestly, time passes by so quickly when you’re snorkeling. Next thing you know 4 hours have passed….and hopefully by then you’ve moved around enough to earn your next meal!
Buck Island in St Croix USVI is one of THE best snorkeling destinations in the entire world. Yes. I said it. And it’s true. The area was categorized as a National Monument in 1961 and has been protected ever since. There are close 5,000 acres of protected reef to cruise around on your St Croix snorkeling trip. Eagle rays, various species of turtles, parrot fish, blue tangs, and thousands of other kinds of fish! There is even an underwater trail for you to follow as you explore!
If you get tired of snorkeling, there are beautiful beaches full of white sand for you to relax on. I mean, it just doesn’t get better than this! Watch this video for some more information: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhxoGVx6wGI#t=540

St. Croix Vacation Condo
Ok, so you’re ready to go to St Croix USVI for your vacation. Now what?! In my opinion, the best place to start is finding your home base. You need to pick your home for the next few days, week, or even a month. Some people will go the hotel route, but I like to get the more personal feel of a vacation rental. You tend to get more of the local feel of the place you’re staying, the locations are often better for the price, and….if you book through us….you get a discount on your vacation package!
Now that we’ve decided on the type of rental, we need to figure out the where! Christiansted and the East End are the best options. They are near many of the activities in St Croix, there are plenty of restaurants nearby, and there are many vacation rentals nearby.
St. Croix Bio Bay
Bioluminescence. It's one of the most amazing phenomenons in the world! Animals literally glow...really!
Bioluminescence is caused when animals, through various chemical reactions, emit light. One example that many people have experienced are fireflies. In St Croix, bioluminescence is found in an organism that lives some bays and because of this...the water glows!
Animals have various reasons for utilizing this tactic. For example, the firefly uses bioluminescence for mating purposes. Like a “Hey there good looking. You like what you see?”. Various types of squid can spray a bioluminescent mist in order to misdirect predators. On the other end of the spectrum, some animals use their glow to attract animals so they can eat them! All of it is amazing!
The dinoflagellates in the St Croix bio bay employ bioluminescence to shine light on other predators who are chasing them so that larger predators will go after the organisms chasing them. Said another way, “I'm not here! Go and make a meal out of somebody else!”
The Salt River Bay is where the bio bay magic happens! Pyrodinium Bahamense is the little guy we’re after and he lives and thrives in the waters of this bay. The mangrove forest surrounding the bay gives structure to hide around and seems to be an important component for this creature and its unique trait. Around the Caribbean, where there is bioluminescent glow, there is usually mangroves.

St. Croix is the largest of 3 US Virgin islands (USVI) and packs many memorable activities into that real estate! Whether you're on land or at sea, St. Croix has vacation plans for you.
The ocean holds many adventures for those willing to do a little exploring. Buck Island National Monument has protected it's reefs since 1961 and the years have been kind to the ocean life here. Really, its amazing. We have many recommendations for dive operators if you're interested! If relaxing on the beach is more your style, we can give you a little more info on St. Croix best beaches. Jack and Isaac's Bay is a little difficult to get to but it has great snorkeling and there probably won't be any crowds. Rainbow is another great beach due to it's shallower depths and great snorkeling.
Food in St. Croix has that Caribbean feel to it with a little something extra. Fresh ingredients and local creativity make cuisine on St Croix something to seek out!
